The nominees for the 86th Academy Awards were announced a couple of days ago and the second Hobbit film was nominated for three different categories: best sound editing, best sound mixing and best visual effects. The first film in the trilogy, An Unexpected Journey, was nominated for three Academy Awards last year as well. Both films were nominated for best visual effects. Hopefully this year The Desolation of Smaug can win one of the awards for which it was nominated, as An Unexpected Journey failed to do so.
